First Day of School 2008

Well Harlee is in 6th Grade now - wow does time fly! Kodee is in 2nd Grade, she is as tall as the 4th graders. They are both so excited. Kodee stood at the bus stop 20 minutes before the bus came! Oaklee doesn't start kindergarten until September, Kohlton starts pre-school then too. So we will put the first day of school pics up then.

Bubby's real birthday

August 14, 2008
Okay so this is Kohltons real birthday and we decided to go to the Western Park and do the candy drop. A helicopter hovers over a blocked off parking lot and drops hundreds of pounds of candy. Each age groups get a turn on going and getting candy.
So we started of by the ampatheater with pizza and cupcakes and a few presents. Then we walked out front to where the candy drop was. The kids had such a great time trying to get as much candy as they could. I hope Bubby can Remember his birthday when he gets older he had a lot of fun.

Kohlton's Turns 3!

August 11, 2008
Okay so Kohlton's birthday isn't until Thursday the 14th, but Josh had to go back to work before then, so we celebrated his birthday a couple days early just our family so Josh could see the excitement. Kohlton (aka Bubby) was surprised. Josh had taken Bubby to Bull Ring to get a new pair of John Deere cowboy boots- they have camoflauge on them- and Bubby totally loves them. We came home and let him open his presents from us. He got a farm set that has trucks and trailers, animals and other farm equipment. He also got a big set of John Deere farm equipment. You put the 2 of them together and you have a complete farm. Barn, stables, sale barn, silo, fences, hay, wheel barrow, pitch fork.... you get the idea. Well he has not stopped playing with it since he opened it, even the girls love to play with him. It was great to sit there and watch the kids play and entertain themselves, actually quietly for a few hours.

Goat Show

August 9,2008 Duchesne County Fair Goat Show
Well when we got there Saturday morning Harlee decided she didn't want to show, so Josh asked Oaklee if she wanted to. To my surprise she said yes and got all excited. Harlee helped her so that she would know what to do. Kodee and Oaklee did a very good job and the goats were well behaved most of the time. Oaklee's goat that she showed took Grand Champion Reserve in Market and Reserve in Market Class. She was awarded 2 medals and blue ribbons with lots of money, well for a 5 year old. Kodee was also awarded Blue ribbons and money for showmanship and she third in her Market Class. Kodee wouldn't let me take her picture with her ribbons and money the little fart. She's not so much into the "spotlight" unless she is home alone.

Duchesne County Fair Stock Show 2008

Duchesne County Fair August 4-9 2008
Well we are having a great time here at the fair Harlee is finished with her Showmanship and market shows with her lamb. She took 3rd in Showmanship in the overall junior division and her friend Quincey Huber (next door nieghbor) took first. We couldn't be happier for all of the kids that had gone to the fair from Lapoint, we had a great success. In Market Harlee's lamb took 6th and Quincey's took 5th so overall this has been a great trip. We came home on thursday to get the goats ready for the show on saturday. Kodee is so excited and can not wait. We will see how they do. We will let you know what happens.

Getting ready for Duchesne County Fair Stock Show 2008

Well it's stock show time again, Duchesne is this next week August 4th. These kids have worked really hard with their animals. Harlee and Kodee are into showing livestock along with the neighbors. Daiten, Dekoven, Jamie, Janzen, Quincey, and Dawson. Harlee is not going to show a pig for this show, just a lamb. She has worked really hard on her showmanship. She wants another belt buckle. Kodee isn't old enough to show hog, sheep or steer so she is showing a goat. They both have really enjoyed being active in the 4-H program. In June of this year they both had the chance to compete in the Uintah Basin Junior Livestock Show and had fun. Harlee received 7th place for showmanship overall with her lamb. Kodee received 3rd place in market, with her goat in the jack pot. They really love being around the animals and down at the Huber farm. We are excited to see how they will do in Duchesne. We also have the Utah State fair coming up in September. I can not wait never been to the state fair before. Harlee and Quincey have some killer hogs for this, at least i think so....we will see how they do. We are grateful for the opportunity to live in an area where we can participate in these kind of activities. Very much blessed.

Grandpa Darrell

July 24, 2008 The Olsen side of the family decided to go wish Grandpa and Great-Grandpa Darrell a happy 85th birthday. We started our day at Artic Circle in Roy which was NOT easy to find but we made it, after the kids played long enough we left to go to Olive Garden to have dessert with Grandpa Darrell and Micki. Dessert was very interesting. 16 of us sitting and talking enjoying ourselves and trying to keep the boys entertained. It was very nice to see Grandpa in good spirits. We all know how Grandpa and my Dad get when there is a lot of noise and commotion going on -they get really uncomfortable. Sorry they had to put up with us but it was way worth it to see most of the family there together. Wyatt and his family couldn't make it because they were sick. Josh and Bevan were at work. After dessert we then traveled to the cemetary and visited the Paul side of the family resting sites, Grandma Ellen and Grandpa Bob as well as the others in the family that have been laid to rest. Then we did a drive by of Grandma Beas home were she grew up and then onward to Grandma Gealtas home were she grew up. We then went on to where my Grandma Bea was laid to rest at and took some time to take pictures of the kids and visit before we parted in our seperate ways. I decided to take my kids to see my Dads home were he grew up and where I had spent many summers. It has changed alot as most things do. It was way good to go down memory lane with my Mom and Dad and see all the things we haven't seen in a while. The long day was worth it we got to see the family and relatives that we do not get to see as much as we would like. This was a very good experience for the grandkids to see where their ancestors lived and were laid to rest. So glad that Abbey had the idea to go and do this as a family- Thanks Ab!!!!!

Workmans Lake

July 18-19 2008
Well it was a little vacation for Josh and I. We decided that we would rough it for a night and go camping up in the High Uinta's by Cliff Lake, but not in the camper, in a TENT! Well I haven't been camping like that since young women's camp 15 years ago so I was really kinda nervous. Lions, Tigers and BEARS OH MY!!! Really more about bears. Well, let me explain how you get to Cliff Lake. If you were to leave our house you would go up to Paradise Lake on Mosby Mountian which is only about 45 minutes. You go past Paradise Lake about another 30 minutes- and park the truck, because the road is Reallllly rocky, so we then take the ranger crew all loaded with only the necessities, and drive for another 45 minutes on the rocky path and literally down a stream to Cliff. We set up camp and fished for a while. Come to find out I am not a natural at fly fishing, although I did catch a little fish after my thousandth time casting. Josh had caught one the first time he casted out- my thought was that's not fair, I gave up an hour into it. So we ended up back at camp and made our dinner, pork-n-beans right out of the can and cheddar waurst, over open fire. It was fun just being there with Josh and in peace and quiet. Well needless to say I froze my butt off! My $100 sleeping bag wasn't worth $15, but i survived. We woke up the next day and hiked 3 miles in to Workman Lake, named after Josh's Grandma Jeans' side of the family. Well, it wasn't that bad of a hike but I knew I would have to hike back out- wasn't looking forward to that. When we came on to Workman's Lake it was the most beautiful thing- you go into a meadow, it bends around and clears out to the Lake. When we were walking up to it we had noticed a cow moose at the other side of it getting ready to go into the lake, I guess they eat the moss at the bottom. Well just when she gets in, two bull moose come charging in and kick her out- go figure. Well we were only about 200 yards away and we had got closer to where we wanted to fish. It wasn't close enough for me. I had to sneak up on them closer and I was about 50 yards away and loving it- intense!! The fishing wasn't that great I think the fish had all winter killed or something. Josh just caught one little one and that was it. I didn't even try. The whole experience was amazing!! Loved it! It definitely was worth it. Josh and I had a great time. The hike back seemed to be forever- but we made it. I can really appreciate all of what God and Jesus has made for us, the beauty of this world goes unrecognized until you have experienced it for yourself. The feeling of being out there with only nature, it really is peaceful. Would do it again in a heartbeat and bring the kids along to witness and enjoy the outdoors as much as we do.

OK TX NM CO

On June 18-20 2008, Josh was working in Raton, New Mexico and we decided to take the trip and go through 4 states in a few hours. It was very interesting, the 10 hour ride from Utah to New Mexico with 4 kids. Then turn around the next day go through four states in like 5 hours - we would have made it to Nebraska but there was this huge storm in Oklahoma, it was scary so we turned around and went back to Raton. We visited the Capulin Volcano, the kids loved it. They couldn't believe they could walk down into the volcano. They didn't realize it wasn't active so they were a little scared until we had explained it to them. It was another experience of this beautiful world- although Raton....well lets just say it was beautiful in it's own way!
